Welcome to another year with Pack 895! Thank you for sharing your family with us. If you’re new to scouting, you may still be wondering what this is all about. First and foremost, my number one priority for you and your scouts is to HAVE FUN! We have lots of exciting adventures planned this year, and along the way we hope to accomplish the four Aims of Scouting: Character, Citizenship, Fitness, and Leadership. We start with instilling personal values in our scouts by first demonstrating these character-building qualities as leaders. Next, we help our scouts build meaningful relationships and learn responsible behaviors in the community. As our scouts continue to participate in the various den and pack activities they will grow in physical, mental, and emotional fitness. And finally, as our scouts gain experience, they will have opportunities to see and practice effective leadership. All the while we will keep the primary goal in mind…to have fun! I’m excited to be back together again to start another year of fun adventures. Thank you for being a part of Pack 895!

The final three points of the Scout Law are Brave, Clean, and Reverent. Let’s start with the last point and a thought from Scouting’s founder, Robert Baden-Powell. When asked where religion came into Scouting, Baden-Powell replied, “It does not come in at all. It is already there. It is a fundamental factor underlying Scouting and Guiding.” Earlier he explained “Religion seems a very simple thing. First, love and serve God. Second, love and serve your neighbor.” There are many ways that we can practice reverence in scouting, and while you may not profess to be a Christian, I think we can all agree that the fundamental principle of loving your neighbor as yourself, thinking of others first, when demonstrated in action produces tremendous value. In fact, the other points of the Scout Law…trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, & clean…are all rooted in this one principle of putting others before yourself. As leaders, volunteers, and parents let’s all strive to live out the points of the Scout Law and be examples for our kids, our families, our friends, and our coworkers. Thank you for joining on this scouting journey with Pack 895 this year! I look forward to many more fantastic adventures together.
Regards, Bryan McCary Cub Master, Pack 895 Greetings from your Cubmaster! Our next point in the Scout Law is a scout is thrifty. The definition of thrifty is using resources carefully and not wastefully, and I think one of our most precious resources is time. We only have a limited amount of time with our kids, and you can't get time back once it's gone. I encourage you to use your time wisely to make the most of these precious years in your family. Scouting is a great way to spend your time with fun and meaningful experiences together. Thank you for spending your time with Pack 895!

Thank you for all you do to keep scouting fun for all our families. Greetings from your Cub Master! Last year we started going through the points of the Scout Law together, but we only made it through the first five. The next two points of the Scout Law are a scout is Obedient and Cheerful. Now you may think these are two completely separate concepts, but I think true obedience comes from a cheerful heart. The essence of obedience is respect. Even as adults we can demonstrate the essence of obedience by honoring the ideas of others and showing others we value them by taking the time to listen. Another way we can demonstrate the essence of obedience in our technology driven culture is to simply put down our phones and be present. I value the limited time I get to spend with each and every one of you in Pack 895. Let's make the most of our time together!
Regards, Bryan McCarty Cub Master, Pack 895 Greetings from your Cub Master! I read a quote from Charles Swindoll this week that I want to share with you about "...the impact of attitude on life. Attitude, to me, is more important than...circumstances, than failures, than successes, than what other people think or say or do...we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day...I am convinced that life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it." As we start off 2022 many of us will make new year's resolutions and set goals for what we want to accomplish this year. Let's make one of our goals for pack 895 to maintain a positive attitude as we work together to keep scouting a fun adventure for our families. Here's to a new year of scouting together!
Regards! Bryan McCarty Cub Master, Pack 895 Greetings from your Cubmaster! One thing you may not know about me is that I love all kinds of music, and Christmas carols are one of the things I look forward to the most this time of year. It both amuses and saddens me to consider how many of the familiar carols we know by heart while giving little or no thought to the meaning of the words we sing. This morning I heard Joy to World on the way to work, and I'm struck by the last couple lines of the fourth verse: And wonders of His love, And wonders of His love, And wonders, wonders, of His love. The story of God's love for us is truly amazing - sending His son Jesus to earth, born to die as a savior for a people that despise him. Oh what a wondrous love is this! Let me challenge you this Christmas season to think about the meaning of these old familiar carols as you listen to them in the coming weeks. I hope you will join Pack 895 on Dec 13th as we have the opportunity to sing with some friends at a local Sr. Center. May you cherish time with your friends and family this holiday season and take some time to stop and enjoy the music!
Regards, Bryan McCarty Cub Master, Pack 895 Greetings from your Cub Master! This month I want to talk about what I sense at my house lately and perhaps many of you are experiencing too…life is busy! Cub Scouts is a parent led organization, and at times it may feel like a challenge to fit in all in. I have a quote posted in my home office from Vivian Greene that is a great reminder for me, “Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass. It’s about learning how to dance in the rain.” I sincerely appreciate all of the time and effort each of you give to our Pack whether as a registered leader or an active parent just continuing to show up. Each of you working together is what keeps our organization strong. I pray that you know you are appreciated and know you are not alone! My goal is to provide the support you need to keep scouting fun both for our kids and us as parents. Please contact any of our leadership committee members if we can help in any way. Let’s all dance in the rain together!
Regards, Bryan McCarty Cubmaster, Pack 895 Greetings from your Cub Master! I am so excited for the year ahead!! I have three kids in the pack this year; two are Webelos nearing the end of their Cub Scout journey ready to move on to Scouts BSA, and the youngest is a Tiger just getting started on his adventures. I have enjoyed getting to know so many wonderful people through scouting over the past few years, and I look forward to meeting even more new people in the years to come. This reminds me of the next three points of the Scout Law for us to review; a scout is Friendly, Courteous, and Kind. Each of these character traits reflects the way we relate to others by putting others before ourselves. I encourage you to strive to brighten someone's day today. Put a smile on their face. As my wife Jessica would say, tell someone you love them and you're happy they were born! Thank you for joining Pack 895 on your scouting adventure. It's my pleasure to know you!
Regards, Bryan McCarty Pack 895, Cub Master Lots of changes are taking effect around us as we head back to school, welcome new families to the pack, form new dens, start popcorn fundraising, and kick off our full program for the scouting year all while we are still dealing with COVID. My commitment to you through all of the changes and uncertainties is to keep our focus on making scouting both a FUN and SAFE activity for you and our kids. As we continue to learn the points of the Scout Law together, last month we talked about the opportunity for us to demonstrate what it means for a scout to be Trustworthy. The next two points of the Scout Law that we can reinforce as parents are a scout is Loyal and Helpful. I think these values are complimentary in how we should aim to treat one another. Let’s all look for ways to actively support each other and take extra steps to help those around us whether by simply opening a door or making a much larger sacrifice to help someone in need. I think you will find that you are blessed as a helper even more than the individual you are helping! Thank you for your commitment to scouting and for your support of Pack 895.
